Right now, the new portfolio website I’m currently working on fixes all the problems listed, while updating the look and feel:

1) It fixes the problem of clicking through the site just to view my projects by grouping a category into one slideshow. 2) You may download/view my resume from the main page.
3) Updating the website is much more simple.
4) The rest of the info I’ll let you find out.

I’m pretty satisfied on the overall progress at the moment. I’m trying to implement some JQ coding to give the design more “pow”.

$25 BREM Original – These are going to be the main hats I’ll be selling. It’ll be the exact style and colors from the Zumiez competition.

$35 BREM Custom color – With these hats, you’ll be able to choose the color of the mesh, and the color of the hat. The design will stay the same as shown in the photograph, but you have a little more control over what you want.

$15 BREM Line Art – This will be the simplest option. Cheap hats, but purely all clean black lines with no color. This is basically my favorite stage and sometimes I wish I can just keep it uncolored.

$50 Custom Made – You have control of what word is on the hat, what color mesh you would like and the color of the background/type/3d/style. This would take the most of out my time and require a lot of attention and work, but is the most customized.

Story behind the name. Back in 2006, I decided that I really wanted to start doing a new art form and thought graffiti would be something to start with. Immediately it became something I loved doing. I was writing everyday and accumulated a total of 4 different books filled with graffiti. I loved how there’s basically two sides of this art: the artistic-side, and the destructive-side of graffiti. I started out with the artistic-side and filled many books to work on my writing. I was introduced to the destructive side and it gave me a rush until bad things happened and wanted to quit. I ended up wanting to do it again one day and thought this time I’ll stay clean and started writing the word “BREM”. It was mainly an ego thing, because I felt that every thing related to graffiti here in Silverdale and Bremerton was giving graffiti a bad reputation. I felt that if I practiced long enough, I can basically be good enough to represent BREMerton, enter graffiti competitions and create elaborate and beautiful messages. Sometime down the road I stopped, because of art school, but realized what has happened to me throughout the time from when I first started up until today. If it wasn’t for graffiti, I wouldn’t have enough motivation to work hard and graduate Olympic College to pursue Graphic Design @ the Art Institute of Seattle. It also gave me self-confidence to start new things in terms of art & life and brought my life on track. Lastly, I wouldn’t have met important people in my life and the right people in life that brought me to meeting Ashley.

For those who are graduating, you might want to consider bringing 100+ cards. I brought 75 thinking that I wouldn’t run out, but I guessed wrong. I ran out during the last hour, and there were people that were looking for my cards, but couldn’t get one. A missed opportunity. Or, you can bring your case of 500 cards, or whatnot, and have a display of how it’s presented.

Table cloths and mounting walls are now provided for future students, so now you guys don’t have to go out and buy those things. I was sort of lucky that I was procrastinating till the last moment only to find out that I didn’t have to buy it after all!

If you’re presenting boards, I’ll have you know that it was an awkward way of presenting them. My boards are all 16″x20″ and a selected few were presented on a stand. For one thing, it took up a big amount of space and people were a little hesitant to look at the work. Mainly it was because people would have to take out the boards and put it back into the board holders. So, if you plan to present in boards, make sure it’s welcoming for people to pick it up.

Lights. Lights are turned off, and I’m sure all that you’ll be hearing is that you must buy clip lamps. Your clip lamps are important, as well as the power of your lights. The girl next to me had beautiful clip lamps that projected strong light onto her boards. You could actually see the outline of the light hitting against the board (imagine putting a flash light against the wall close enough, you’ll be able to see the skewed circle). My lights were LED lights, and projected a neutral color light, which looked cold in contrast  to that girl’s lights next to mine. It was also pretty weak since it didn’t have that strong light, and overall it just looked cheap. The most important thing, however, is to buy your lamp. Lamps radiate a very strong warm light in the unlit room, and without it (by the help of a good pal of mine) your portfolio setup will look unwelcoming, and dark.

Extension Cords and Power Strips must be brought. I don’t know how I would be able to set up my station without them.

Bring a CD with your website on it. I could not get the internet to work somehow. I was glad I had my current website on a CD to just pop it in, and start up the index.html.

That’s pretty much it, everything else you can experience for yourself. You can’t be too ready, but hopefully this would get you to be ready enough for your portfolio presentation to go smoothly.

One last thing. You do know there will be people presenting their labeling and most likely it’s wine. It’s always wine. If it’s miniature wine with labels on them, you know that graduating student isn’t going to do anything with it after portfolio. So ask them for it! Most likely they aren’t going to do anything with it. So enjoy the night with a cute bottle of wine on the way home and drive safely!

The event is going to be held January 8 2009 and is open to the public. Right now we’re looking for sponsors to potentially order/buy a floor other than linoleum. Although, it’s fine if we don’t.

This project took a total of 3 weeks to complete—although its on and off. The goal of this design was to appeal to the young local generation b-boys here in Silverdale. I used dancers here in Bremerton/Silverdale as part of the logo to be represented as the general community of the city. The concept behind the logo is the local dancers are creating a foundation for our b-boy community, “working together” to create a steady freeze at the top. We’re all working together by influencing each other, inspiring one another and keeping others in check.

One of the main pieces I wanted to focus on was the mini flyers and the DVD.

The mini flyers in a business card format was created in this dimension to basically save money. West Sound Printing Press prints 8.5″x11″ color print card stock for $0.39 ea. I can get 8 cards in one letter.

The idea behind the DVD is that, for whoever donated to receive the DVD will have an option to have their picture in the back. If not, then I’ll choose the default picture for the DVDs. I felt that this would be more personal since everyone who is coming out for this event is supporting Ace.

I’m looking forward to see how successful this event would be.

It would be fun to have other people try it. The project involves opening your mind to creatively see the small things in life—of all the things that we overlook everyday—and find something naturally unintentional that resembles a letter. Also you’re limited to finding type in the same city. The goal is to complete the alphabet. My goal is this, and to maybe create a silly font from it that I’ll name Unintentional Seattle.

While walking through Seattle, I only found three on Alaskan way so far. It was interesting because I found myself actually looking at everything. I’m talking about buildings in whole, trees, sidewalks, cracks on the road, railings—anything that is usually something that I would not give a care for—to find something that would unintentionally resemble a letter, and it was actually fun. I’ll be able to continue to look for more on Monday when I go back. The following are the letters E, Z and F.
